We have a few noteworthy items today.
First, we released a new tile pack in our Autumn Wood series: the Autumn Ruins! Venture further into the Golden Wood and you will discover a ruined tower. Who made it and how it feel are a mystery, but there remains one wooden trap door in the center of the tower. Do you have the daring to uncover the secrets of the Tower?
Second, we have a minor update for the Legacy RPG System and Alerion Setting. The first section of the playtest documents are nearly done! This section describes how to build the basic six-sided dice pool, various ways the system and Chronicler can effect it, and general adventuring rules. We've also been messing around with different concepts for the interior setting art. We keep bouncing around between realism and something a little more animated looking. I think most of that is because the two of us have very different art styles and I'm terrible at adopting someone else's. This is why I do the writing (which, it seems, I make enough mistakes in - my English degree blushes with shame).
I've mentioned Alerion a few times in this post, and previously, but haven't really expanded much on what it is. For those who follow us, the fact it's a fantasy setting has been pretty obvious. So there's that. We've tried to put an interesting twist on it, though; at least, we're trying to break away from the current trend of dark fantasy. The world in real life is dark and sucky enough, we don't exactly want to hang out in a bucket of color washed depression. I think it's safe to say that the majority of roleplayers right now lived through the 80's where fantasy media could be dark, but was also vibrant and exciting. We love this. For many, 80's fantasy is what activated the on-switch to our imaginations and dreams in the first place and led us to this hobby. We want to get back to that. Not emulate the entirety of the visual style, though; 80's hair needs to stay in the 80's (sorry, Larry Elmore). We seek to fuse the bright hope and vivid color of 80's fantasy with our study of Medieval Europe - of which we have been actively researching for fun over several decades. Our vision is a game world that's wondrous and strange, but with a real familiarity pulled from our own distant past. We hope you'll enjoy walking the emerald fields and golden woods of Alerion with us.
Below is a small gallery showing a few things we're working on. All are sketches or prototypes and are a bit rough. We hope to hold a contest at product launch for some free swag, the die is our first attempt at making one for the Legacy System from scratch. We cut the wood, did the sanding, pounded the pips (not very well, as one can see), applied some linseed oil, painted the pips, and sealed the whole thing in a thin layer of polyurethane. It took a lot longer to do than previously anticipated and we're looking for a slightly faster way (owning a miter saw would help).
We hope you like what we're doing!
