We definitely need to work on how often we update. Okay, prepare yourselves. This is going to be pretty packed. We have been absolutely swamped with work. It's been fantastic. So many great things are happening right now I'm pretty sure something is going to be missed, but here it goes:
We have a few noteworthy items today. First, we released a new tile pack in our Autumn Wood series: the Autumn Ruins! Venture further into the Golden Wood and you will discover a ruined tower. Who made it and how it feel are a mystery, but there remains one wooden trap door in the center of the tower. Do you have the daring to uncover the secrets of the Tower? Second, we have a minor update for the Legacy RPG System and Alerion Setting. The first section of the playtest documents are nearly done! This section describes how to build the basic six-sided dice pool, various ways the system and Chronicler can effect it, and general adventuring rules. We've also been messing around with different concepts for the interior setting art. We keep bouncing around between realism and something a little more animated looking. I think most of that is because the two of us have very different art styles and I'm terrible at adopting someone else's. This is why I do the writing (which, it seems, I make enough mistakes in - my English degree blushes with shame).
It's Niklas' Birthday today! In celebration, we're posting a few new items! Drop by DriveThruRpg to check them out.
We're trying our best to keep on top of things, but the last few months have been pretty busy in our personal lives. We have both seen new additions to our families, and a lot of illness or other health issues. For a clearer view of why we lost some of our stride, see the following account. Life has been a bit stressful:
On the bright side, we had a lot of serious conversation on game development. We have a clearer scope on where we want the actual rules to go and how we think the setting should be developed. We're excited to get this product out to you guys. We're a little less excited about the man hours it's going to take for all the writing and art production with only the two of us, ha ha! Here are some of our quick sketches to feast your eyes on:
So it's been some time since we've had an update and a lot has happened. I think a mild explanation of our recent slow progress is in order. First, Niklas' family is expecting a third addition to their little family in September. This was exciting news; however, halfway through the pregnancy, we found out the baby had some massive physical development issues. It's very likely the he'll make it to delivery, but very unlikely he'll make it long after that. The last few months have been pretty emotionally brutal, and the worst of it is still to come. Additionally, there have been some massive changes to his day job and his section is under corporate review. Unemployment may or may not be in his future, but that adds a fair amount of additional stress. Second, James' family is also going through a few things. They're also welcoming a new addition to their family, another boy (little boys joining have been a thing this year), and the pregnancy has been wreaking havoc on his wife, more than the usual for a pregnancy. The baby seems to be fine, but the mother has had several trips to the emergency room for various things. Also, their vehicles have finally decided to give up the ghost, all at the same time. In spite of these less than thrilling life experiences, we have slowly (more slowly than we'd like, but life doesn't always deal us fantastic hands) been working on a number of exciting products! Our first update is a product we hope all of you will enjoy. While playing with our Skype/Roll20 group, we noticed how laborious random treasure tables were and tried to figure out a fun way to address this. Here's a preview of our solution: We've also been listening to our fans and have been focusing the efforts of our tiles on a number of requests. If you have something you'd like to see, please let us know, and we'll add it to our list.
Work on Alerion and Stargazer is slow and steady, but we make progress. We're getting closer to releasing alpha test documents to our playtest group. We're excited! We're well on our way to 300 followers on the Twitter account and wanted to extend our gratitude for all of the support we get from you, our fantastic fans. We couldn't do anything without your support. Thanks! Work on game tiles continues on schedule and there are some exciting things coming. We'll have several more releases to the Sci Fi series over the next month—including a set of flooded decks. Additionally, we're going back to basics with some iconic Fantasy themed pieces! Stay tuned for those! There are also some updates to older tiles that will be made available this weekend and we continue to post print-on-demand options for our current line. Much of the recent art being teased on Facebook and Twitter is for an upcoming jaunt into tactical card games set in our Stargazer universe! There will be two different games available through OneBookShelf: a smaller scale combat game focusing on a single event in the Stargazer timeline, and a fleet scale resource management version. We're super excited to release both of these games! However, we still have a lot of work to do before we can continue playtesting. Work on other games and products are in planning or preliminary writings stages and moving smoothly. We're hoping to expand our product library significantly in the coming months and hope you'll join us for the ride! We have over 100 followers on Twitter!! Thank you so much for your patronage. We may be small, but we have mighty plans that cannot be accomplished without your support. If time allows, I'll try and see about posting up a teaser from one of the sections of our roleplaying game, Alerion, as a thank you. In the meantime, enjoy some concept art from our Stargazer series!
The staff at Skinner Games wishes everyone a happy Holiday Season and hope that the New Year will bring many good things. We're excited about our prospects here and are thankful for the support of those checking out our work. We have several projects in the planning stages including two card games and a set of basic RPG rules we plan on expanding through setting specific supplements, all while continuing to release quality gaming tiles. Our release schedule for the tiles is still being ironed out, but we expect things to be pretty stable starting next week. Keep an eye open for exciting additions. The website still many sections under heavy construction; however, there are going to be some massive updates in the near future. Please feel free to poke around and join our forums. Let us know how we're doing and what you're looking for in gaming products. We're always searching to create material we think the gaming community can use. Cheers! I just added a Twitter account to our website! Hooray for progress!
Speaking of progress, we're slowly, but surely adding to our library of tiles. In the works are some industrial fans to include in a sci-fi bundle. Keep an eye open on our store and social media accounts. Progress on our other projects is slow but steady and we hope to have a teaser with a brief discussion of the rules for one game out withing the next few months. Exciting things are happening, so stay tuned! |
